Sir Graham Watson to Address ‘Better Lives with Less?’ Discussion in Ilminster

Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament for South West England and Gibraltar Sir Graham Watson will be one of two key speakers at the Warehouse Theatre, Ilminster on Friday 10th February at 7.30pm at the 'Better Lives with Less?' event being organised by the South Somerset Climate Action Group.

The discussion will focus on future local and global challenges such as climate change, investment in infrastructure, water and food shortages and an ageing workforce. As leader of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party, Sir Graham has recently led discussions on the future of Europe at a European leaders summit in London alongside Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Sir Graham spoke at a similar event last year on China and is looking forward to bringing his candid and forthright views on how society can do more, with less.

''I am very much looking forward to addressing the SSCA and members of the public once again in Ilminster. The short term challenge of austerity and cutting back public spending provides a good opportunity to look again at how we use resources and how we can make efficiency gains. Investing in the long term future of a planet with finite resources requires greater resource efficiency. Similarly, investment now in future prosperity in rail, our roads and our children will ensure we are ready to meet the challenges of an ageing population and increased demands on our public pension and welfare pots.

''At a global level, fighting the behemoths of nationalism and populism will enable us to secure energy, food and water supplies. I look forward to discussing this and much more on the 10th February.''
