Cornwall takes centre stage in global climate change talks

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 8th Oct 2009

Truro Cathedral will be the arena for a lively debate when environmental groups and local people give their views on the crucial climate change meeting that will take place in Copenhagen on December 17-18, 2009.

Over one hundred people are expected to attend the event being put together by the Reverend Canon Philip Lambert of Truro Cathedral. The speakers, who include Euro-MP Graham Watson, climate archaeologist Dr Stephen Harrison and climate campaigner Nancy Biscoe, will discuss how Cornwall can make its voice heard in climate change negotiations.

Graham Watson commented;

"The meeting in Copenhagen is being billed as the last chance to stop climate change. This is Cornwall's chance to give its opinions.

"Climate change is often described as a global problem, but it is a local issue. Its effects will be felt in Cornish towns and villages, but these communities will also play a key role in tackling the problem.

"That is why local people should come to meetings like these and get involved now."

The event will take place on Friday 9th October from 7pm at Truro Cathedral. Press are welcome to attend.
