This weekend Graham Watson, Lib Dem MEP for the South West and Gibraltar, and Leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the European Parliament has been invited by Finnish Liberal Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen to attend a summit of European Liberal Prime Ministers in Lapland, Finland.

Graham will join Prime Ministers Anders Fogh Rasmussen (Denmark), Ivars Godmanis (Latvia), Calin Popescu Tariceanu (Romania) and Andrus Ansip (Estonia) as well as a number of European Commissioners at the Summit.

Speaking ahead of the summit, Graham Watson said,

"I am looking forward to discussing with the European Liberal Democrat Prime Ministers and Commissioners prominent issues that require EU level action. We will also discuss the Lisbon Treaty and its implementation; as well as the 2009 European election campaign. Liberal successes across the EU demonstrate that Liberal Democrats are a force to be reckoned with, both at national level and within the European Parliament".
