Graham Watson - Liberal Democrat MEP for South-West England and Gibraltar

MEP Watson proud to represent Cornwall in Europe

12.01.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 5th Mar 2008

Today is St. Piran's Day, and local Liberal Democrat MEP for the South West and Gibraltar, Graham Watson, whose constituency covers all of Cornwall welcomes the valuable opportunity the day gives for people to celebrate its unique culture, heritage, language and aspirations.

Mr Watson commented;

"European Union Convergence funding for the period up to 2013 is worth £415million and will continue to help Cornwall's economy develop.

To celebrate this development, why not - as suggested by all my Liberal Democrat colleagues who represent Cornwall at Westminster - have St. Piran's Day recognised as a public holiday?

I have been very proud to serve and represent the people of Cornwall in the European Parliament since 1999. And although Parliamentary business this year means I cannot be in the County on St. Piran's day, I am pleased to be holding a video conference with students from Hayle Community School."
