Italian Democratic Party leader Walter Veltroni to meet with ALDE Group

On Wednesday 5th of December at 11.15h Walter Veltroni, Mayor of Rome and leader of the newly formed Partito Democratico (Democratic Party), will take the floor in the ALDE Group meeting.

Following the friendly meetings Veltroni has recently had with ALDE leader Graham Watson, this will be the first official introduction to the MEPs of the Liberal and Democratic family.

"ALDE's progressive vision of Europe and freedom is a key component of the PD. I very much look forward to welcome Veltroni to meeting our Group. We will be eager to learn more about the plans of the new Democratic Party in uniting the progressive forces of Italian politics", said Liberal Democrat leader Graham Watson.

"It is significant that Veltroni has decided to mark the beginning of his leadership with a mission to 'Europe', and particularly to the European Parliament", pointed out Alfonso Andria, head of the Democratic Party/ALDE Delegation.

The Democratic Party Delegation at the European Parliament is made of 18 MEPs, 10 of whom join the ALDE Group and the remaining 8 the PSE Group.
