Graham Watson, Leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the European Parliament applauded the decision of the Ukrainian Supreme Court to annul the results of the 2nd round presidential elections today.

"This decision shows that the spirit of democracy and the rule of law is alive and kicking in Ukraine, even if it has had to confront tough resistance from the incumbent regime," he commented on learning of the news.

"Both the Ukrainian Parliament and the Supreme Court have risen to the occasion and joined the forces of hope demonstrating with orange banners on the streets of Kiev, and in so doing open a path of opportunity and prosperity for the Ukrainian people."
