Somerset Based Lib Dem Euro Leader in High Level Talks

Published on Thursday 28th June 2012
On the eve of a crucial European summit of European Union leaders, Somerset based MEP and leader of the European Liberal
Democrats Sir Graham Watson will today hold talks with Liberal Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers and European Commissioners in Brussels.
Watson is holding the talks to publicise his party's views on how to deal with the current Eurozone crisis and the main challenges facing European leaders at the summit.
Watson commented,
"European leaders are working flat out behind the scenes to address the challenges we face. Delaying now will only mean more pain later. A decisive plan of action is what the business and financial sectors are crying out for.
"Today's meeting is designed to show that we must apply Liberal solutions to these problems. This means introducing a 'one in one out' system to new regulations, target the remaining European structural funds into getting people into work and reducing the paperwork which businesses need to hand in when filing accounts. There is no silver bullet. What is needed are a series of reforms that will create more jobs and allow businesses to grow."
